Livestock Exhibitor Code of Conduct

The Lindsay Exhibition is committed to responsible animal care and treatment. This Code of Conduct outlines what is expected of livestock exhibitors in the handling and exhibiting of all animals involved with the LEX.

This Code has been developed to meet the following objectives:

  • To ensure the health and well being of all animals at the fair
  • To demonstrate an accurate and responsible animal care message to the public
  • To maintain the integrity of all livestock competitions, displays, and sales
  • Livestock and poultry must be transported to and from the LEX in accordance with all humane transport regulations and standards.
  • Loading and unloading must be undertaken using proper equipment and procedures.
  • All animals must be treated and handled in a responsible manner. The well being of the animals shall take precedence over the demands of owners, sellers, buyers, organizers, sponsors, and officials.
  • The care of all animals must be as consistent as possible with their normal schedules and standards. High standards of nutrition, health, sanitation, environment and safety must be met at all times. All handling, housing and veterinary treatment must ensure adequate animal care.
  • Livestock should be prepared with proper training, fitting and grooming prior to the LEX. Excessive disciplining of animals at the LEX is unacceptable.
  • Exhibitors are expected to provide adequate training for anyone handling their livestock. Untrained individuals, including LEX personnel and visitors, should not be permitted to handle animals or equipment.
  • Exhibitors should take every opportunity to enhance public awareness, education and appreciation of proper livestock management and handling practices.

There will be no tolerance for any mistreatment of animals. Any unacceptable exhibitor conduct will be subject to action including possible elimination from the competition(s) and/or exhibit, at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Lindsay Agricultural Society.


RULES and REGULATIONS

1. All exhibitors must obey the general rules of the Lindsay Exhibition as well as the individual regulations of each division. An exhibitor violating any rule or regulation of this Society, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, may be required to forfeit all prizes won, and may be subject to other penalties as the Board may see fit.

2. THE LINDSAY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY reserves all rights to its grounds and may restrict or prohibit admittance to the grounds to any person or group of persons without giving reason for such action. Further, the Society may refuse the privilege of exhibiting to any individual without disclosing the reasons for such refusal. All members, exhibitors and others must place animals, cars, trucks and exhibits as instructed by the officials or remove same from the grounds.

3. MEMBERSHIP: Any persons, on the payment of the annual membership fee of $15.00, shall be enrolled as a member of the Society for the current year and as such shall be entitled to the advantages and privileges conferred on members under the rules of the Exhibition. No membership fee will be retained from winners for their membership for the following year.

4. OWNERSHIP: Animals or articles entered for competition must be the bonafide property of the person entering them, and with the exception of animals, must have been grown, produced, manufactured or made in the present year by the person or persons entering them. If any doubt arises on the subject, proof will be required. The President, Vice-President or Manager shall be obliged to cause any exhibitor with reference to whom such doubt exists, to make satisfactory declaration of compliance with the terms of the said Rule. If any person shall enter an article for exhibition as produced or manufactured by himself or herself when it has not really been so, he or she shall forfeit all prizes, which may be awarded to him, and shall be precluded from exhibiting in the future.

5. PRIZES: Should there be only one exhibitor in a class or section the Judges may use their discretion as to awarding any premium. The Judges shall in no case award any prize unless they consider the exhibit actually worthy of such prize. No person shall be a Judge of any article or any class that they are interested in as an exhibitor, agent, employee or otherwise.

6. ALCOHOL: Consumption of alcohol in the livestock barns is prohibited. Following one warning the exhibitor will forfeit their prize money. This Rule will be strictly enforced.

7. GLASS CONTAINERS: Absolutely no glass containers will be allowed in the Livestock Buildings or wash racks. Following one warning the exhibitor will Forfeit their prize money. This Rule will be strictly enforced.

8. SMOKING: Absolutely no smoking in the Livestock Buildings, or any other buildings. Following one warning the exhibitor will forfeit their prize money. This Rule will be strictly enforced.

9. ENTRIES: All entries must be made on entry forms supplied with prize list,including all requested information. PLEASE NOTE: Insurance information required on entry forms. All entry forms must be in the Lindsay Exhibition Office on or before the closing date of entries as listed in the prize list. Entry fees and administration fee must accompany entry forms.

10. TRUCK PARKING:
Immediately following unloading, all trucks MUST be moved to the stipulated truck parking area. Trucks and trailers not parked where directed may be towed at owner’s expense. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

11. FIRE RESTRICTIONS: No one is allowed to leave a vehicle in front of any building by order of the Fire Chief.

12. DISTURBANCES: An exhibitor who is guilty of creating a disturbance, whether by openly criticizing the Judge or using obscene language to any Judge, Official, Employee or Board Member, shall forfeit the right to any premium and may be suspended by the Society from exhibiting.

13. FRAUD: Upon the discovery of fraud, deception, or dishonest practice, either in preparation, ownership, or of any misrepresentation concerning any article exhibited which may be affected, or may have been intended to affect the decision of the Judges, the Board of Directors shall have the power to withhold the payment of any prize awarded, and may prohibit any such party or parties from exhibition in any class for one or more years, and may publish the names of such persons or not as deemed most expedient.

14. COMPLAINTS: Complaints as to errors in premiums must be made known to the Manager before the close of the Exhibition in order to be considered. No protest will be considered unless a deposit of $25.00 accompanies it. The deposit to become the property of the Exhibition if protest is not sustained,but if sustained, the full amount will be returned to the party who entered the protest.

15. PREMIUMS: Premiums won in all classes of livestock will be paid by cheque as soon as possible following the Exhibition. Exhibitors who do not receive prize money by November 15th are asked to contact the Exhibition Office at once, submitting itemized statement of prizes claimed.
**NOTE: Prize cheques must be cashed by MARCH 1st, 2018. 2017 Fair prize cheques will not be honored after this date.
**Prize cheques of $20 or less will not be mailed - premiums may be picked up at the LEX Office after
October 18th, 2017 and MUST be picked up by
November 30th.

16. STRAW: Absolutely NO STRAW will be provided by the Lindsay Exhibition.

17. SAFETY: While the Directors will take every possible precaution under the circumstances to secure the safety of articles sent to the Exhibition, the owners themselves must take the risk of exhibiting, and should any articles be accidentally injured, lost or stolen, the Directors will give all assistance in their power towards its recovery, but will not make any payments for the value.

18. LIABILITY INSURANCE: All Exhibitors and participants must carry a Public Liability Insurance (minimum $2 million). The Society will not be responsible for any accidents. Insurance information is required on entry forms.

19. UNMANAGEABLE ANIMALS: Animals not under sufficient control shall not be allowed to compete.

20. ATTIRE: Neatness of dress in the ring is required in all divisions.

21. HUCKSTERING: The Society, under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act has the power to enforce all its rules and regulations, and the right to prohibit and prevent theatrical, circus, or acrobatic performances,exhibitions or shows, all kinds of gambling, soliciting for funds, the huckstering or trafficking in fruits, goods, wares or merchandise on the Exhibition grounds, or within three hundred yards thereof; and any person who, after due notice of such rules, violates same, will be removed by police officers or officers of the said society, and will be liable to penalty prescribed.

22. PENALTIES: Every person who contravenes any of the provisions of the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act, or the regulations or any rule or regulation of a Society under subsection 2 of section 19 or who gains admission to the grounds contrary to the rules of the society is guilty of an offense, and on summary conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $100.00

23. The Society reserves the right to interpret its own rules and regulations and should any dispute or question arise not provided for in the rules and regulations, the decision of the Board of Directors shall be final.

24. In the event admissions to the exhibition are reduced due to weather conditions, the Board of Directors reserves the right to reduce the amount of premiums to be paid.

25. PETS: No pets are allowed on the Exhibition grounds. No dogs, including Exhibitor’s dogs, are allowed in the barns during the Fair.

27. All animals must have RFID, CCIA CSIP or NLID tags in their ears.

REGISTERED CATTLE RULES

**ALL CATTLE MUST HAVE NATIONAL ID TAGS IN THEIR EARS.

It is the responsibility of each exhibitor to read and fully understand the rules governing cattle at The Lindsay Exhibition. Only the Chairperson, together with Assistants, may make exceptions to any rules.

1. ADMINISTRATION FEE: All cattle exhibitors must pay an administration fee of $10.00. Administration fee and entry fees must accompany entries. **LATE FEE - additional $5.00 per entry

2. ENTRIES CLOSE: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2017 and must be in the fair office at this time. Complete pedigree information as requested on the entry form must be completed in full. Entries received after SEPTEMBER 8th will be treated as a late entry, and the late fee will apply.
Note: Late entries for the Beef and Dairy Shows will NOT be accepted after midnight FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2017.

3. ENTRY FEE: $10.00 per entry, LATE FEE: additional $5.00 per entry

4. ALL ANIMALS SHOWN at the Lindsay Exhibition must be registered in the name of the exhibitor in accordance with the by-laws of their respective association by the closing date of entries (including calves) and must have original papers available at the show. The certificate of registration must state that the animal is purebred in accordance with the by-laws of their respective association.

5. ALL BEEF ANIMALS (including calves) must be legibly tattooed. Those not tattooed will be disqualified.

6. NUMBER OF ANIMALS ALLOWED: Each breeding unit is allowed a maximum of 10 exhibits except the Breeder’s Herd, Get of Sire and Progeny of Dam classes.
Beef Cattle: There is no restriction on multiple exhibits in any class except the Breeder’s Herd and Get of Sire classes. Nurse Cows will not be allowed. Calves from classes 14 & 15 will not be allowed to be shown singularly except as part of the Breeder’s Herd and Get of Sire, except in MOE Show (see page 16).
Dairy Cattle: For Junior Female classes where prize money is offered, exhibits per breeding unit are restricted to a maximum of two (2) entries in two (2) classes. There is no restriction on multiple exhibits for Milking Female classes.

7. DEFINITION OF AN EXHIBIT: All purebred registered animals, whether owned by one person or by more than one person (individually or jointly) are considered to be the production of the farm or breeding unit on which they are maintained.
BREEDING UNIT: Where the same or common interest are involved in more than one breeding operation, such operations are considered as one breeding unit. In all cases where there is any doubt that more than one breeding unit exists, the interpretation shall be that only one breeding unit exists. The responsibility of proof of separation of breeding units shall rest with the exhibitor.

8. STABLING AVAILABLE: No cattle or equipment will be allowed to stable in the Barns until after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday September 20, unless previously arranged. NO STRAW WILL BE PROVIDED.

9. ASSIGNMENT OF STALLS: Stalls for cattle will be assigned by the Committee. No exhibitor may occupy any area other than the one assigned to his herd.

10. ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE:
~ Herefords to arrive no earlier than Wednesday at 7 PM - must be in by Thursday at 9 AM - must leave after their show Thursday night
~ Maine Anjou to arrive Thursday after midnight - must be in by Friday at 9 AM - must leave after their show on Friday
~ Charolais to arrive Thursday after midnight - must be in by Friday at 9 AM - must leave following their show Friday
~ Milking Shorthorns to arrive Thursday no later than 3 PM - must leave after their show on Friday, by 2 PM
~ Holstein - stabling will be available in the cattle barn by 7 AM Friday - all animals must be on the grounds no later than 4 PM Friday - must leave immediately following their Saturday Night show
~ Limousin & Shorthorn to arrive Friday after midnight - must be in by Saturday at 10 AM
~ Angus, Blonde d’Aquitaine & Simmental to arrive Saturday after midnight - must be in by Sunday at 10 AM
Alternate arrangements for those coming from
a distance MAY be arranged
~ Any exception to releases and arrival times must be pre-cleared by Committee Chair and Breed Coordinator.

11. Any exhibitor removing animals or leaving before times outlined in rule #10 will forfeit all prize money.

12. STRAW: NO STRAW WILL BE PROVIDED. NO SHAVINGS ALLOWED.

13. TRUCK PARKING: Immediately following unloading, all livestock trucks must be taken to the stipulated parking areas. Vehicles left by the barns will be towed at owner’s expense.

14. Your attention is drawn to the fact that there must be at least 3 exhibitors and at least 24 animals in each breed of both Beef and Dairy cattle to receive the prize. If a breed does not meet the “Number of Head” requirements, prize money will be adjusted on a pro-rated basis (based on 24 head). Prize money will not be reduced more than 50% for that breed.

15. ATTIRE: Exhibitors must be attired in suitable uniforms and proper show harness with proper ring number in order to enter the show ring. Owner is responsible for making sure correct ring number is worn.

16.TAMPERING: Unnatural practices in fitting will not be tolerated and all cattle entered for competition shall be presented in the judging ring in their natural conformation and natural physical condition.

17. BREEDING CAPABILITY: In cases where doubt exists in the mind of the judge or official as to the breeding capability of an animal, the exhibitor may be required to furnish evidence to the satisfaction of the officials concerned.

18.SUBSTITUTIONS:
Beef Fee:$20.00 each. Substitutions are limited to 2 head per exhibitor. Exhibitors may substitute only within the class already entered, not from class to class. All substitutions must be made at the office no later than three (3) hours prior to the commencement of that breed show. Substitute or additional entries will not be accepted at the show ring.
Dairy Fee: $10.00 each. May substitute from one class to another, and one animal to another. All substitutions must be made at/to the office no later than 4:00 p.m. Thursday of the fair week. Substitute or additional entries will not be accepted at the show ring.

19. SMOKING AND THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IN LIVESTOCK BARNS IS PROHIBITED. FOLLOWING ONE WARNING THE EXHIBITOR WILL FORFEIT ALL PRIZE MONEY. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

20. NO GLASS CONTAINERS ARE ALLOWED IN THE LIVESTOCK BARNS.

21. DAIRY CATTLE EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE: The current Rules and Regulations,including the "Standard Exhibitor's Agreement" of the Canadian Dairy Breeds (both Holstein & Milking Shorthorns) are in effect at LEX Dairy Cattle shows.

22. BLOCKING CHUTES: Due to fire hazards and the safety of the public, BLOCKING CHUTES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE BARNS. All blocking chutes must be located outside and placed where directed by the committee. Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated. Failure to comply with this rule will result in automatic forfeit of prize money, and the chute will be removed from the building.

23. ALL GENERAL RULES of the Lindsay Exhibition shall apply to Exhibitors participating in this section.

24. Following the 4-H Calf Club Championship Show, a 4-H Member may enter a calf, which has been shown in this show by paying a $5.00 entry fee. All other rules of eligibility must be met. Cut off time is Thursday of the Fair at
4:00 p.m., after which time no further entries of this type will be accepted.

25. PETS: No pets are allowed on the Exhibition grounds. No dogs, including exhibitor’s dogs, allowed in barns during the Fair.


HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR CATTLE

1. Any animals affected with ringworm or pinkeye will not be permitted to enter the Exhibition.

2. US cattle entering Canada for exhibition purposes, having met ‘Canadian Import Requirements’, will be eligible without further certification for entry to Canadian exhibitions.


RBC Beef Supreme Challenge 2017

The Lindsay Exhibition has been approved as a qualifying show for the
RBC Beef Supreme Challenge 2017 at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, SK , November 20 ~ 25, 2017

Canadian Western Agribition's purebred beef finale "RBC Beef Supreme Challenge" showcases North America's finest purebred beef genetics in one show ring. This event is unique amongst all other purebred beef events in North America.

Grand Champions and Supreme Champions from several of North America's top livestock shows have won the right and receive invitations to compete for top honour as Agribition’s RBC Beef Supreme Bull or Female.

The top ten of each division (bulls & females) will be presented, but not placed. Then the Supreme Champions (female then bull) will be announced. Regardless of where the animals qualified, all Agribition Champions will enter the arena under the Agribition banner.

1. Judging will commence at 12 noon Friday, in the Agriculture Pavilion (formerly the Show Ring).

2. There shall be no limit on the number of entries that may be made by an exhibitor. However, an exhibitor will not be eligible for more than two monies in any class. Pen space will be allotted according to the number of animals brought to the show.

3. All animals over six months of age must be registered with the Canadian Goat Society. Papers will be checked. Prize money will not be paid if papers are not shown. Tattoos will be inspected.

4. Milkers must be milked dry within 12 hours before judging begins. Goats with hard-distended udders may be disqualified at the discretion of the judge.

5. Animals are to be penned not earlier than 10 PM Thursday September 21, 2017, and no later than 9 AM Friday September 22, 2017.

6. **Animals must remain until 5 PM.

7. A veterinarian will be on the grounds from 9 AM and on to check all animals.

8. SUBSTITUTIONS: Exhibitors may substitute only within the class already entered, not from class to class. All substitutions must be made at the office immediately upon arrival.

9. All whites or white top with black bottoms to be worn while showing.
